A year of documenting mornings –

on

Turning the year’s half-way point, I decided (against better judgement) to start a new project. My tutor tells me it’s unrealizable, too rigid, impossible to carry through. For better or worse I take his words as a challenge …

this is what I do:

Every morning I start my day of making with a simple still life.

Th is what I doEvery morning I start my day making a simple still life.

These are the set points:

  • The still life will be the first thing I make every morning
  • All works are made on A3 paper
  • The set up is limited to 5 objects (can be fewer)
  • Time frame: Max 15 minutes

These are the variables:

  • Type of paper
  • Tools
  • Materials
  • Set-up

Three weeks in … still fun

– and only 344 days to go 😂😂😂

I love it! Still 344 days, a whole year? That IS a challenge, but I like it. I wish I would have the strength and the energy to do it!

I know the project will challenge me, and maybe it will be too much, but I’ll never find out unless I try. What I do know is that working within a set structure reduce the chance for overwhelm, and strangely, limitations tend to foster new discoveries… 💚

That sounds very reasonable to me!

I agree with what you said to Almuth about the benefit of limitations. Good for you!
