The 100 Day Project

#The100DayProject –

The idea is simple: choose a creative project, do it every day for 100 days, and share your process online.

This is what I have chosen: 100 days of gelli printing, to learn more about the process of monoprinting on a gel plate – and also to study colour & layering of colour.

“Ghost of Enlightenment”, 3/100 – #The100DayProject

I make my prints on book pages taken from The Great Naturalists, it feels kind of … appropriate.

Why 100 days?

“You make good work by (among other things) making lots of work that isn’t very good, and gradually weeding out the parts that aren’t good, the parts that aren’t yours. It’s called feedback, and it’s the most direct route to learning about your own vision. It’s also called doing your work. After all, someone has to do your work, and you’re the closest person around.”

― David Bayles, Art and Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking

or, put short:

Becoming good, better, takes a heck of a lot of time & practice

  1. Ah yes, practice. I’ve decided to get back to the piano this month, and sit down not just to play but to really practise. I’m hoping to see a marked improvement!
I like the print. Great choice of related text to print onto, as well – I like the layered effect. I’d like to try making art with book pages because I love the aesthetic but I haven’t convinced myself it’s okay to break up a book yet. Was that a concern for you?
I hope you’ll be sharing more from your practise over the coming days. Very encouraging to see artistry in progress rather than just a polished final product.

      THANK YOU, Isobel!
Regarding book-destroying; somehow I had two copies of this book – and it is a paperback 😅

If you like you can follow the whole process on instagram @sigrun.hodne

This will be a good project! I like the print very much and now I’m curious about the book. 🙂
