Who has not felt, in reading a text—whatever its quality—the need to improve it through a little judicious retouching?

Meeting of the Oulipo in the garden of François Le Lionnais, 1975
(I recognize Italo Calvino (who’s work I love!) in the picture & Georges Perec (who I think I will like, but who’s books I have to re-read)). It sure looks like a fun party – but tell me, if you happen to know: didn’t these men have any female friends???
Hee. Women don’t have the necessary virtues and skills to maintain a friendship, end quote. (see under: Derrida, The Politics of Friendship). They can only be a thinking person’s lover, wife or mother. /snark
Love that you have the tag “female friends” now. May it live long and prosper.
oooo – have to look into this!!!!
A great work that identifies the axis of philosophical thinking all the way from Aristotle to present day about why women just don’t have the required nobility for friendship.
