I’m an explorer, discovering a kind of poetry I had no idea existed! Today I came upon Yedda Morrison.
Yedda Morrison is an American writer & visual artist. I discovered her work through The Poetry Foundation. If you are interested in erasure poetry listen to this!
Darkness is my attempt at a linguistic excision of all things human from Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, a biocentric reworking of the original text
In Darkness, Yedda Morrison erases—or, significantly, “whites out”—chapter 1 of Conrad’s Heart Of Darkness leaving behind only the words and phrases that reference the natural world.
Like most works of conceptual writing, the premise at first sounds mechanical, but what counts as “the natural world” is far from self-evident, and opens onto a range of philosophical and ethical questions.
