What to do?

I’m stuck on page 57 of Nicole Krauss’ novel Great House, and I really don’t know what to do. I had such great hopes for this book, but to tell the truth: I find these first pages very disappointing. There is no force in the story, the language is ordinary … and I miss the originality of The History of Love!

But Great House is a National Book Award Finalist & New York Times Bestseller – so surely there must be something here I don’t get…

Should I put the book away, or is there something yet to be discovered – ?

I have read a few reviews of people who liked this book much better or as much as The History of Love but I’m not sure whether they only thought so way into the novel. I’m bad at not finishing books but when I used to read for an editor, 50 pages were all you had to read if you thought it wasn’t worthwhile.
I’m sad to hear it isn’t so good btw. I will start with her first one.
